Dealer Requirements

Requirements for Dealer's License First Issue

The applicant must produce the following documents: –

  1. Written application on Company’s Letterhead;
  2. Complete form of application for Dealer’s General Licence;
  3. Certificate of Registration from The Ministry of Trade and Industry;
  4. Certificate of the Incorporation of a Company;
  5. Certificate of the Registered Address of the Company;
  6. Town and Country Approval;
  7. Fee of five thousand (5,000.00) to be paid

If there is a change of address on the application for the renewal of a Dealer’s General Licence, the renewal should be dealt with as a first application.

Renewal of Dealer's License

The applicant must produce the following documents: –

  1. Completed Application Form No. 13;
  2. Valid Certificate of Motor Vehicle Insurance;
  3. Letter to the Transport Commissioner requesting renewal;
  4. Fee of five thousand (5,000.00) dollars to be paid.

Application for Replacement of a Dealer's License

In the event of a dealer’s license being lost, the applicant must produce the following documents and procedures must be observed in order to be re-issued a replacement: –

  1. A report from a Police Station;
  2. A completed application form No. 13 and a sworn declaration at the back of Form No. 4 (before Justice of the Peace or Commissioner of Affidavit) and Form No. 8;
  3. Take the Form to the Licensing Office where original payment was made;
  4. A fee of seventy (70.00) dollars is to be paid.

Application for Rental Operation

The applicant shall submit the following documents:

  1. Letter written on Company’s letterhead requesting approval for permission to operate a rental company;
  2. Letter must include number of vehicles;
  3. Town and Country Approval;
  4. Registration Letter of a Company from Registrar General

A site visit by a Licensing Officer must be conducted before approval is granted. If approval is granted, the applicant will be informed by mail.

For More information on the Amendments to the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, please visit the Ministry’s website – www.mowt.gov.tt and click on MVRT Act Chapter 48 50 tab.

Remember, to avoid a traffic ticket and demerit points simply obey the road traffic laws. Do not act contrary to the law outlined in the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act Chapter 48:50. 

The Transport Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise all permit holders /motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in compliance with the TARE Weight and Maximum Gross TARE Weight in keeping with the law.
